In Molise, history, culture, and tourism intertwine to celebrate the Normans.
The region of Molise is ready to take the front line in the European celebrations dedicated to the millennium of the birth of William the Conqueror, icon of the Norman expansion in Europe.
Organized by the Normandy Region (France), Millenium is a large-scale event that involves numerous European countries and regions linked to Norman history, from the United Kingdom to Ireland, Flanders, up to several regions of Southern Italy.
We are proud to include Molise in the official calendar of this major project, together with the Azienda Autonoma di Soggiorno e Turismo del Molise. Indeed, the Molise region is an integral part of Norman history thanks to the legacy left by Rodolfo de Moulins, the Norman knight who conquered the County of Bojano and from whom, according to historians, the name of the region itself derives.
Territory, schools, citizens: all part of history
The initiative is not limited to institutional actors: schools, cities and local associations, historiansare invited to contribute to the magnificence of medieval history through initiatives of various kinds – from historical reenactments to medieval-style partiesfrom academic conferences to educational projects - are parts of a plan that aims to involve citizens and communities, to improve local historical memory and strengthen cultural tourism in a european panorama.
