The Associazione Molisani di Ottawa (AMO) once again invites the Canadian community to celebrate the region's Norman origins and the pride of Molisan identity in Canada.
Our own organization, the Associazione Rodolfo De Moulins (founded in 2000 to reenact historical deeds through period costumes and theater), is grateful to have served once more as a source of inspiration for AMO Ottawa. This renewed event offers a unique opportunity to rediscover "who we are and where we come from."
A Tribute to Our Roots: From Rodolfo De Moulins to the Present Day
The central theme of this edition is deeply rooted in the Middle Ages. Many are unaware that the name "Molise" actually derives from a Norman chieftain, Count Rodolfo De Moulins. Upon arriving in Southern Italy, he established control over the Molisan area; later, in 1142, his great-grandson solidified the family name’s connection to the land we now call Molise through the Treaty of Silva Marca.
AMO’s Commitment: From 2008 to the Future
Founded in 2008 by a group of Italian-Canadians, AMO has become a cultural pillar in Ottawa. From the early sponsorships of the Zampognari di Polo Matese (bagpipers) to the "A Taste of Molise" tastings, the association keeps the bond with the motherland alive by promoting events that blend history, tradition, and commerce.
We join our fellow countrymen and women in these celebrations. We would like to express our gratitude to the President, Anna Romano Milne, and Vice-Presidents Domenico Tardioli and Francesco Maiorino, for their dedication in once again spearheading this splendid event dedicated to Molise’s Norman era.
