The site, however, was abandoned during the events surrounding the crises of the Roman Empire and was not frequented again until the 9th century. During the Lombard rule, Saracen raids became more frequent and devastating, triggering the process of major territorial significance commonly referred to as \"castellation,\" the consequences of which are still evident today in the presence of settlements and fortresses located on the hills, controlling the cities and roads of the valley floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bovaianom nel periodo romano divenne l\u2019acropoli della civitas Bovianum;
